AAMI Golden Slipper day finally gave us the weather we have been waiting for – a true autumn day with mainly clear skies and a slight chill in the air. It was time to test out the autumn outfits complete with closed toes shoes and trench coats. And while the fashion (and health) conscious rugged up for the chill an alarming number of ladies ignored the weather report, and showed off their goose bumps in strapless dresses!

Not so, Gai Waterhouse who was a big winner on the day both on the track and in the style stakes. Looking sensational in a caramel trench and a fantastic leopard print fedora hat Gai showed some real autumn sizzle. Sally Singleton also showed off some serious style with a great winning speech after the BMW and a gorgeous animal print dress.

The Myer Marquee was hub of fashion (and flirting). Jennifer Hawkins was stunning in stripes, Rebecca Twigley showed us why she is the perfect Myer Fashion Racing Ambassador looking striking in black and white. Ricki-Lee sang the national anthem and looked as fabulous as she sounded in THE colour of the season - purple.

Flying the flag for the gentlemen the boys from Underbelly, Gyton Grantley and Les Hill, looked very dapper and were very focused on the action on the track.

MYER Fashions on the Field attracted many of the fashionable fillies and colts on course. The winner of Women’s Racewear Claire Rowe was a familiar face having also won Fashions on the Field at Canterbury on Ladies Day.  Claire, who gained automatic entry into the finals of Fashions on the Field as part of the prize on Ladies Day, scooped the pool looking elegant in navy blue with a touch of sparkle.

1st runner up Jacqueline Wingrove looked fabulous dressed head to toe in purple. Showing that technology and fashion is a perfect fit – Jacqueline purchased her entire outfit on Ebay!

The men did their part looking very sophisticated in a plethora of fabulous shirt/tie combinations. The say that the shirt sets the stage and the tie steals the show and it was Brian Cunningham who took the spotlight as the winner of Men’s Fashions on the Field. Proving that sometimes the girls know best – Brian entered the competition at the insistence of his wife and walked away the winner with some fantastic prizes!

The Sydney Turf Club launched the National Young Designer Awards in 2006 as a fantastic initiative to help raise the profile of young fashion designers. Each designer who entered the competition was asked to submit a garment they felt represented quintessential Australian racewear. The top ten designers were showcased on the day – but of course there can only be one winner.

Sarah Doblo from Brisbane took out the National Young Designer Awards with a black, bronze and gold silk ensemble with a 40’s style high neck halter with a cinched in waist. Autumn colours and fine style - remember this name for the future!

Now our attention turns to the sweeping lawns at Royal Randwick for Emirates Doncaster Day featuring the AJC Derby. Being a Derby Day expect to see plenty of traditional black and white in the fashion stakes and with cool weather expected don’t forget your coat and perhaps invest in some gorgeous gloves.

Visa Platinum Fashions on the Field will be a feature event on the day but for those wanting to take matters into their own hands you can enter the Hot to Trot Competition. It is as easy as emailing a photo of yourself in race day finery and putting your sense of style to a public vote. People can rate your picture – the higher your rating the shorter your odds. Check out www.randwickprincess.com to enter or to vote for your favourite prince or princess!
