Three days. Two venues. Witness the making of champions of the turf, culminating in the richest race for two-year-olds in the world, the AAMI Golden Slipper. The three-week Festival has forged its mark on not only the realisation but also the breeding of future thoroughbred champions.

For first time in many years, Group One racing will return to Canterbury Park with Myer Ladies' Day being staged at the centrally located course in 2008. Day 2, Darley Guineas Day and the final day, AAMI Golden Slipper Day will again be staged at Sydney's premier racecourse, Rosehill Gardens.

The 2008 Golden Slipper Festival boasts:

  • 18 Group races run over three consecutive weekends culminating with 5 Group 1 races on AAMI Golden Slipper Day
  • The world's richest race for two-year-olds - the AAMI Golden Slipper
  • A total of nearly $11 million in prize money.

The 2008 Golden Slipper will also see the unveiling of Rosehill Garden's magnificent new $30m Grand Pavilion; ensuring race goers will experience autumn racing in grand style.

Myer Ladies Day

Saturday, 5 April - Canterbury Park

The opening day of the Golden Slipper Festival will be run for the first time at Canterbury Park Racecourse. Features the running of the Queen of the Turf Stakes, one of only three Group 1 races for fillies and mares in Australia. Also features the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes and Golden Slipper preludes, the Todman and Reisling Stakes. Fashion flair will be in focus with the heats of the National Young Designer Awards and Myer Fashions on the Field taking place on centre stage.
 
General admission $20 - Gates open: 10am

 


Darley Guineas Day

Saturday, 12 April - Rosehill Gardens

The Golden Slipper Festival is in full-swing by day two with a program boasting the Group 1 Dubai Rosehill Guineas ($500,000), the first of three major contests for three-year-olds in autumn. Be on course for your chance to win a $25,000 trip for two to Dubai and take in the live entertainment between races.

AAMI Golden Slipper Day

AAMI GOLDEN SLIPPER DAY
The crescendo of the Festival is day three – the richest day of racing on the Australian calendar. Features five Group 1 events including the richest race in the world for two-year-olds, the AAMI Golden Slipper, and The BMW whose honour roll includes turf legends Octagonal, Might and Power and Makybe Diva. The fashions will be as keenly watched as the winners of Myer Fashions on the Field and the National Young Designer Awards are crowd. The sounds of Australia's Ricki Lee and sensational Irish DJs The Potbelleez will reverberate through the course.
 
General admission $30 - Gates open: 10am

 


Getting there


Canterbury Park is situated just 25 minutes from Sydney's city centre and is easily accessible by public transport from all parts of the metropolitan area. Free parking is available in the infield car park, which is serviced by both vehicular and pedestrian tunnels.

Rosehill Gardens is situated approximately 20 minutes to the west of the Sydney CBD in what is the geographical heart of the metropolitan area. Three of the city's major vehicular arteries - Parramatta Road, Victoria Road and the M4 Motorway service the course, while special race day trains run direct to the race track. Patrons can also travel by Rivercat from Circular Quay to Parramatta and connect with a free bus service to Rosehill Gardens.
