
Racing NSW performs the functions of the principal racing authority for NSW and relevant committees under the Australian Rules of Racing.
Racing NSW's Mission:
To provide independent, strong and united leadership in the development and enhancement of the NSW Thoroughbred Racing Industry, which will lead to the maintenance of confidence in the integrity of the industry, improvement in its competitive position and increased financial returns to constituent stakeholders.
Racing NSW also controls, supervises & regulates horse racing in this State, and initiates, develops and implements policies considered conducive to the promotion, strategic development and welfare of the horse racing industry.
Among its other functions is to investigate and report on proposals for the construction of new racecourses, and inspect new racecourses or alterations or renovations to existing racecourses.
Racing NSW also regulates and licenses race clubs, trainers, jockeys, stable hands, bookmakers, bookmaker's clerks, etc. and can inquire into and deal with any matter relating to racing and to refer any such matter to Stewards or others for investigation and inquire into the running of any horse or any course.
Racing NSW allocates to registered race clubs the dates on which they may conduct race meetings, and can register and identify racehorses for the purpose of racing.
Developed by Racing NSW is the highly successful racehorse incentive scheme BOBS (Breeder Owner Bonus Scheme).
The scheme provides bonuses ranging from $1563 to $25,000 (these figures available until 31st July 2008) for eligible winners of any NSW race with the exception of Group & Listed events. During the past few years nearly $5million in bonuses has been given away each year.
Other Racing NSW initiatives include the Broodmare Forum and Racehorse Leasing Forum, Operation Ownership, Online Horse / Owner Search, Suggestion Box and Free Online Race books for every NSW race meeting.
The Racing NSW website is a vital tool used by the NSW racing industry and receives in excess of 1million hits each month. Racing NSW also produces a high quality colour magazine 'Racing NSW Magazine' each month, which contains interesting articles, industry news and contact lists of each licensed jockey and trainer.
