The strong competition at the William Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale continued on Day 2 today, with the overall sale gross well up on last year. At the end of today’s trading, 394 mares had been sold for a total of $46.43million.

The average has kept well above the six figures mark, closing out at $117,846 at a median of $60,000.

Despite 435 fewer mares being catalogued, the gross from this year’s Select Session is up $4.1million on last year’s total.

“This really justifies the decision to go with a two-day Select Session this year and buyers have certainly appreciated the new format,” William Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster said.

“Competition has been very strong and we have seen some fantastic results over the past two days.”

Highlights today included $560,000 for the Zabeel mare Mohave Dancer, in foal to Encosta De Lago.

A stakes winner herself, Mohave Dancer is already the dam of multiple G2 winner Natural Blitz (by Dehere) and was knocked down to Randwick Bloodstock.

The Woodman mare Valadon, a half-sister to Group 2 winners Media and Timbourina (ex Valourina) was sold to Belmont Bloodstock for $460,000.

The US-bred Seeking The Gold mare Seeking A Way was sold to Glentree Downs for $400,000, while the Listed winning Ne Coupez Pas mare Satin Robes was knocked down to Deborah Ho for $390,000.

These come after four mares fetched a million dollars or more on Day 1, highlighted by a $2million bid for the Galileo mare Personify.

The General Session of the Australian Easter Broodmare Sale will begin from 10.30am tomorrow.

Breeders are also reminded that entries for the Australian Weanling and Breeding Stock Sale, to be held in Sydney from June 26, to 30, close this Friday May 9.
