The inaugural Session II of the William Inglis & Son Australian Easter Yearling Sale has been hailed as a great success, with the session grossing $9.643million.

In all, 116 horses sold at an average of $83,134, including 43 yearlings that topped the $100,000 mark.

A Shamardal colt from the Salt Lake mare Salty Sal topped the session, selling to Hong Kong clients for $275,000 after being knocked down to William Inglis as agent.

“That was way beyond our expectations,” William Inglis Bloodstock Director Jonathan D’Arcy said.

“It proves that you can sell quality yearlings after the main sale and still be well rewarded, he was a lovely colt and there were plenty of good judges trying to buy him.

“It is certainly something we will look to build on and this should give vendors the confidence to support this sale in the future.”

Anthony Cummings was the leading buyer of the session, securing 17 yearlings for a total spend of $2.012million, and he was thrilled with the horses he purchased.

“Obviously it was a pretty hot sale in the first three sessions, but there’s been some great value on offer on horses with lovely pedigrees during this session,” Cummings said.

He said most of his purchases were for Patinack Farm’s Nathan Tinkler.

“Nathan’s trying to build a business and with some of the pedigrees available in this session it’s been a good opportunity to build on that,” Cummings said.

Dean Watt’s Dynamic Syndications was also active at the sale, securing three yearlings, including a Hussonet filly from the Dehere mare French Knickers for $175,000.

“I found some outstanding buying of quality horses at realistic prices,” Watt said.

“I bought 10 horses at the First Session at an average of $230,000 and I’ve got three here at an average of about $90,000 and each of them rated just as highly as the ones I bought earlier in the week.

“This sale presents a greater range of my clients with the chance to race a high quality horse at a good price.”

William Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster acclaimed this past week as one of the greatest in the history of the company.

“I would like the vendors for turning the yearlings out in such magnificent order and the purchases who travelled from all over the world to be with us for this sale,” Webster said.

“I encourage all buyers to take the opportunity to enter these horses into the $2.5million Inglis Race Series. “

The William Inglis sales calendar now turns to the Classic Sessions, beginning on Sunday April 27 and running through April 28 and 29.

The Australian Easter Broodmare Sale begins the following Sunday, May 4 and runs through May 5 and 6.
