Tamworth Cup Day Sunday, April 27, 2008
Whether you are standing on the manicured lawns trackside or sitting in the magnificent public grandstand which has stood since 1911, there really is a special buzz to cheering them home at Tamworth.
The 2008 Tamworth Cup Day is the culmination of a wonderful Autumn Racing Carnival for this New South Wales country city. The Tamworth Jockey Club know how to turn out a great country race meeting and with the 2008 Tamworth Cup prizemoney being increased this year, the meeting has nearly $160,000 in Prizemoney and trophies on offer for the day.
This means quality racing on the track and adds to the colour and excitement of the off track activities. Fashion is of course a substantial focus and being an event which is designed for the whole family, the fashion parades and fashions competitions have some excellent prizes on offer for the children, men and the ladies.
The off track fun includes street performers, clowns, childrens amusements and music and adds to the party atmosphere amongst the function marquees and magnificent autumn gardens.
On the track, the eight event card includes the Sky Channel Gold Mornington Handicap. With prizemoney of $25,000 this event for the stayers is a wonderful sight over the 2100 metre distance, as the horses pass the magnificent old grandstand twice to the roar of the assembled crowds.
It’s all about Fun, Family and Fantastic Racing for Tamworth Cup Day. Buses run to and from the track throughout the day, whether you come by yourself, with a small group or large party dosen’t matter. You simply need to be there. Location: Tamworth Racecourse
